The Tortoise and The Hare

I like the fable of the Tortoise and the Hare because it teaches many lessons. Often the lesson about not bragging is most noted. But I personally like this hidden message best: even though things may seem impossible to the human eye, factors around us can happen that can make the infeasible feasible.

Accentuate the Positive

My husband and I live in a true-fixer upper. In our remodeling process, we have often found it is easier to learn what NOT to do rather than what to do. Fortunately, our home is very forgiving. For example,

1. If the new drywall doesn't look perfect, the paint will help cover it up.
2. If the new paint doesn't look perfect, the molding will cover it up.
3. If the molding doesn't distract the eye enough, the furniture, flooring and pictures on the wall will cover it up.

If we were to focus on those small imperfections, we would never get a chance to enjoy the completed project. Similarly in our own lives, we should concentrate on our whole package rather than our few limitations.

Where's the room key?

This past week I went to Melbourne, FL. One night I stayed at a hotel right on the beach and as expected tacky floral prints and colors were used in the decor. Several times I had problems finding the room key which almost became invisible when I made the mistake of throwing it onto the bed.

Twister

A couple of weeks ago, in between all my travels out of town, a tornado hit a few miles from where I live. It was really weird seeing the twister reaching down from the sky and later learning how much destruction it had done in just a few minutes of time. In the blink of an eye, our paths can quickly change just as this twister did.

The Hoity Toity

This past month has been full of travels, of which one I had never visited before. Normally I am not into the hoity toity but since it was a convention that my husband had to go to, I figured one of us would have fun. With day spas and restaurants on every corner, Boca Raton offered very little for those who did not want to foolishly throw away money. Although I did get to see a Lamborghini which is not something one sees everyday!

The beach offered a poor man's spa; beautifully fine cocoa sand which my feet snuggled into with every step. Also, one night we stumbled upon an cozy Irish pub in Mizner park, The Dubliner. Most of the patrons were too busy boozing it up to truly enjoy the songs of Joe Dougherty. But Joe looked like he enjoyed what he was doing so much that he didn't seem to care. He strummed his guitar singing a song favorite of mine, "Brown Eyed Girl".

Marshmallows

Marshmallows – Hot cocoa just isn’t the same without marshmallows. Not sure why since all they seem to do is add more sugar to an already sweet drink. Maybe it is the gooey factor or possibly the elusion of warmth from watching them melt as you sip on the hot steamy drink. If nothing else, it is
a reminder to be a kid at heart and to enjoy the simple things that life brings us.

In the Red

My husband and I went to NC State's opening game in Raleigh this past weekend. Since I do not own any NCSU garb, I packed the most feminine looking t-shirt I could find from my husband's vast collection. My husband stated he would be wearing a red shirt since it was a home game. I thought, "Who cares, as long as it has the teams colors, red and white and their logo." Well, when we arrived at a stadium which seats 60,000, full of red shirts and me in my white NCSU shirt, I learned that sometimes it is more fun to fit in than be the odd man out.

Despite the fan support, State lost by two. As the stands cleared out at the end of the game, this little boy in red in the photo below, looked so defeated.
